That's really kind of you, but we've booked accommodation for Dunedin and Hamilton already - hopefully I'll be able to buy you a drink while we're there.

We've decided to go for reasonable priced hotels although Dunedin had limited available accommodation so we probably paid over the odds.

We've put together a 'wish' list and will have a planning meeting on a couple of weeks, somewhere we'll have to find a few hours for sleep.

We leave the UK on 14th June and eventually arrive in Christchurch on the 16th.

We have booked an internal flight from Christchurch to Auckland on the 22nd (wish we'd stayed longer on S.Island but the weather may be bad)

We fly home from Auckland on the 30th June.

I've bought my Welsh hats today (naff I know )

I'm lucky enough to have some extra work on at the moment and should have earned enough to pay for trip by the end of March.

Heather,

My wife and I did 4 weeks down south a few years ago and pondered using a campervan. In the end we took our car and stayed at Top 10 holiday parks. It saved us truck loads.

www.top10.co.nz they have a great range of options from camping to motel unites and very reasonably priced. Top 10 have to meet certain standards so you can be assured theyr are good quality parks. The one in Te Anau was really new and had an amazing shared kitchen.

The other good thing is that when you check into the first one buy a top 10 card for about $30 and that will get you 10-15% off your stay at all the parks.

I seriously can't reccommend Top 10 enough.

However, it is a dream of mine to do the campervan thing one day. Something abiut it really appeals to me.

But if you aren't experienced driving one the NZ roads can be very hazardous.

Thanks for the info. My friend is coming to stay next weekend - we'll watch the rugby and try and get a travel plan together.

I have driven quite a lot in NZ (in a car) and even in the spring (Oct/Nov) some of the roads were quite tricky so maybe not so wise in the winter.

A woman I do some volunteer work with went to visit her daughter over Christmas, they travelled the South Island, and she told me that they'd had some fraught trips in their camper vans due to flooding!

I'll put this web site into my favourites so we can look through them next weekend.

Thanks again.
