I aint talking about local legends, Im talking top notch, greatest of the great bloody frickin LEGENDS on the biggest, global scale possible.

Without giving away legendary status cheaply, is there anyone else playing today who is? There definitely isn't any other current All Blacks who fit that bill, even Dan Carter.

I can't think of something that Richie has done, as good a player as he is, that would be described a legendary.

The obvious candidates for this status would be BOD and maybe Wilkinson.

If you truly believe this, then you know even less about rugby than I ever thought.

Which in itself, is something I never thought I would say.

Oh dear.

If that's what you really think then is there any point in discussing the role of an openside flanker?

Simple fact is that if you play for one of the big 5 countries you really need to be turning your talent into World Cup Medals. That is not being disparaging to Ireland, Wales etc, however, they don't have the resources to be expected to perform every single year and are bound to have dips.

The WC is just 1 competition, albeit THE competition. Personally, when we do to SA what we've just done in the way we did it, that's enough for me. England for example may have won the WC in 2003, but they've never set the world alight light like we can with Richie firing & a pumped up backline. .

Richie influences games like no other on Earth.

Jonny & BOD are/were only useful if their forwards set a platform, Richie singlehandedly wins matches against THE best teams on Earth on such a consistent basis unmatched by any player of any era week in week out.

He is the heart & soul of the ABs, if he's in form no one will beat us, he has re-invented the breakdown which IS the modern game, he makes refs question their own judgement, he has opposition players baffled & wondering if there is any way possible to stop him, time & time again he has made an average NZ side outstanding, the next best opensiders in world rugby are amazed by him, Saffers & Aussie have tried breaking him & he's outlasted everyone, he makes as many tackles per game as anyone, creates more turnovers per match than anyne in the history of the game.....

You need to see a thing they had on the rugby channel a while ago splitting the screen into quarters & speeding up a game 4 times & fitting it into 20mins. George Smith, Schalk Burger & Martyn Williams (all great flankers in their own right), Wales played England, SA played Aussie & NZ played Aussie, Richie covered 2.3 times more ground than Smith(2nd) effected twice as many turnovers as Smith (2nd again), ran 3 (yes 3) times more distance than Williams (2nd), hit the most breakdowns, made the most passes & a ferw other stats went his way, it was so horribly one sided.

But anyway, you obviously have no idea about him so check out the game tonight, Pocock is IMO the next best openside in the world right now & the next big thing in rugby, focus on Richie if the camera allows, he's a freak.

Flankers have played out of their skin at times & kinda matched him at times, but no one reaches that same intensity over any length of time.
